The Phoenix Restaurant at the Emerson Continues the Spotlight on Song Series with Hudson Valley Musical Performances by Jason Crosby and Megan Palmer.

Posted on: Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Jason Crosby has never had a problem filling his schedule.   The multi-instrumentalist has been a session and touring musician for Robert Randolph and Susan Tedeschi and performed with everyone from Springsteen and Santana to Pete Seeger and Eric Clapton.  He’s recently been in the studio with Assembly of Dust, but will be donning his solo hat in August when he joins a run of songwriter sessions throughout New York.

BROOKLYN SONGWRITER’S EXCHANGE hosted by Jason Crosby and Megan Palmer

Crosby and Megan Palmer have been hosting the BROOKLYN SONGWRITER’S EXCHANGE at Spike Hill in Williamsburg and will do so again on Tues, Aug 16 at 7pm.   The program has gotten coverage in the NY TIMES and continues to grow in its mission.

Aug 17 – New York, NY – The Iridium

IRIDIUM SONGWRITER SESSIONS w/ Lo Faber and Aaron Maxwell (from GOD STREET WINE) with special guests: Megan Palmer and Jason Crosby

Last month, the IRIDIUM SONGWRITER SESSIONS debuted with Crosby and Reid Genauer of Assembly of Dust. Richard Gehr noted in the VILLAGE VOICE, “The midtown jazz club introduces their new singer/songwriter series with a pair of performers who’ve long paid their dues as part of the improv-rock scene’s roots division… Crosby, a keyboard-focused multi-instrumentalist who has performed with Robert Randolph and Susan Tedeschi, moves easily between jazz and singer-songwriter domains.”  Crosby will this time join Lo Faber and Aaron Maxwell (from GOD STREET WINE) along with Palmer on Wed, Aug 17 for 8pm and 10 pm shows.

Aug 18 – Tremper, NY – Emerson
SPOTLIGHT ON SONG series with Megan Palmer and Doug Yoel

The final show of the run is the new SPOTLIGHT ON SONG series at The Emerson in Upstate NY.  Curated by Doug Yoel, who also runs the Iridium Sessions, SPOTLIGHT ON SONG takes advantage of the luxurious Catskill Mountains and features high caliber solo and duo performances from the deep pool of talent that lives in and visits the Hudson Valley.

A highly regarded multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Jason Crosby’s playing has graced over forty albums, from Susan Tedeschi‘s Grammy Nominated blues album, Wait For Me to Anastacia’s pop hit, “Freak of Nature.” He’s backed Robert Randolph on the B3, played violin with Carlos Santana and keyboard with Dave Mathews and Bruce Springsteen.   Having also shared the stage with B.B. King, Pete Seeger, Eric Clapton and The Rolling Stones, Crosby is no stranger to the forces of music that have defined the musical scene for decades.

Jason Crosby has been featured many times on television shows, most notably  Austin City Limits, Conan O’ Brien, David Letterman, Jay Leno and Jools Holland. During his first Grammy appearance in 2004 with Robert Randolph, Jason played keyboard in the tribute to Funk, along with Outkast, the original P-Funk, and Earth Wind and Fire.

Crosby has defied definition in his career, but one thing about him is blatantly obvious, this is a musician whose intrinsic talent and grace are rare gifts to the music scene today. Crosby’s music is almost a melting pot of different sound and form, a profundity of creative elements as varied as the instruments he plays and the styles he explores.

Musician Doug Yoel earned Grammy Nominations working as an independent record producer in post-9/11 New York City.  In 2008, he released the “Yellow Light” EP (Kindred Rhythm), gaining him national recognition.  Doug began developing an international cult following through his releases, media appearances, spotlights on iTunes and No Depression.com, and frequent concert webcasts from the Hudson Valley/NY metro region.

“Jason Crosby shines on keys, trumpet, and violin, and his playing and writing combines the eclectic flair and sophistication of the new Southern fusion.”
