MT. TREMPER, N.Y., April 26, 2010 – Emerson Resort & Spa is celebrating the opening of the new Catamount Dog Park with live music, a crowd-pleasing “Is Your Pet a Star?” contest, police dog search and rescue demonstrations, a silent auction and more. Festivities take place on Sunday, May 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and admission proceeds will benefit the Ulster County SPCA, a no-kill, not for profit shelter providing the community with adoptions, spay/neuter services and humane law enforcement. Suggested donations for this event are $10 for adults and free for children and dogs.
The Catamount Dog Park is Emerson Resort & Spa’s newest guest amenity. Featuring a dedicated play area just for canines with a dog run and doggy shower, the Catamount Dog Park is the perfect complement to the resort’s popular PupGrade. “Our PupGrade option gives guests the opportunity to pamper their pets with a cozy dog bed, gourmet dog biscuits, toy and dog walking services during their stay at our pet-friendly Lodge,” says Naomi Umhey, chief executive officer. “We also donate $10 from the purchase of each PupGrade to the Ulster County SPCA.” The park is only available to Emerson guests, but will be used for pet-related charity events to benefit the community. Additional guest offerings include grooming services and agility training information.
The grand opening celebration begins at 3:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by entertainment from leading New York City DJ, Miss Guy. Miss Guy, a popular musician in his own right, is also known for collaborating alongside legendary musicians Deborah Harry and Boy George.
For those who feel their pet has star quality, animal specialist Cathryn Long will make an appearance as the celebrity judge for the “Is Your Pet A Star?” contest. Long, who works with New York’s premier animal agency, All Creatures Great & Small, has over 25 years experience as an animal trainer, handler and shoot consultant.
Other highlights from the day will include a search and rescue demonstration with the K9 unit of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department, and a silent auction including wardrobe pieces donated by Gidget also known as “Baby,” Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) dog in the Sex and the City movies. While the grand opening of the Catamount Dog Park is Sunday, May 30, special events will be taking place throughout Memorial Day weekend including a family BBQ and Saturday evening campfire performance by rising new recording star, Kailin Garrity.
