Spotlight on Song, A Hudson Valley Music Series, Continues
For immediate release
The Emerson’s SPOTLIGHT ON SONG series continues with intimate, soulful performances by Hudson Valley singer/songwriters Jeremy Bernstein, Carl Mateo and program host Doug Yoel.
The exquisite setting and relaxed vibe of the Emerson’s outdoor and indoor venues have inspired memorable performances – and rave reviews from concert goers – at the first two Spotlight on Song performances .
MT. TREMPER, NY, September 8, 2011 – The Emerson’s SPOTLIGHT ON SONG series continues in September with intimate acoustic performances with Jeremy Bernstein (September 15), Carl Mateo (September 29), and program host Doug Yoel.
The SPOTLIGHT ON SONG features high caliber solo and duo performances from the deep pool of talent that lives in and visits the Hudson Valley. Last month, the Emerson launched the new singer/songwriter series at their luxurious Catskill Mountain destination with stellar performances by Sarah Fimm, Jason Crosby + Megan Palmer, and Doug Yoel.
The next show will take place on Thursday, September 15 at 8pm, and will feature Jeremy Bernstein. After 10 years with his celebrated touring outfit Stone Clove Lane, Bernstein released his first solo album “Love Eat Sleep” in Fall 2010. The album inspired much fanfare throughout the region, including rotation on WDST, rave reviews in Roll Magazine and the Daily Freeman (“a masterpiece”), and an invite to play with Levon Helm at the Midnight Ramble session! Raised in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, Jeremy performs honest tales of friendship, love, and loss to crowds at major venues and festivals throughout the region.
On Thursday, September 29 at 8pm, Spotlight on Song welcomes Carl Mateo – a local singer songwriter influenced by roots, blues and soul music as well as shades of Neil Young. Carl’s original songs, inhabited by broken dreams, railroad brakemen and love lost and found, also reveal his upbringing in factory cities and the reach for the American Dream. Performing on guitar, harmonica and piano, Carl has opened shows for artists such as Jorma Kaukonen, Suzanne Vega and David Johansen.
Hosting and opening both shows will be curator Doug Yoel – a Grammy nominated record producer, and acclaimed singer-songwriter. Americana magazine, No Depression, calls the Woodstock based artist “… one of our faves.” Doug’s sound blends organic roots, blues and vintage rock with classic country heartbreak, sweetened with bits of soul and reggae. He’s appeared in recent months at major venues including Falcon Arts, Iridium Jazz Club, Bearsville Theater, and the Blue Note, and as a guest with Lucky Peterson, The Woodstock All Stars and others.
Emerson’s Spotlight on Song concerts will be held adjacent to their acclaimed Phoenix restaurant. The Phoenix offers an ever changing menu featuring the Contemporary Catskill Regional Cuisine of Chef Curt Robair and is open for dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings from 4 pm. A pre-concert dinner with friends at The Phoenix is not required for concert attendance.
Performances will take place either inside the Emerson’s Great Room or on the back deck of The Phoenix (weather permitting). Admission is donation based with a suggested minimum of $5 per person.
